Planets orbit with exquisite precision. The tides lean in and pull away in lockstep with the moon, tracing a pattern so consistent we’ve used it to mark time for millennia. Monarchs travel thousands of miles guided by an internal compass toward a destination they have never personally known. And somehow, a seed buried in complete darkness knows which way to grow.

Almost from the moment of our existence, we have created containers to help us recognize and understand the energy moving within and around us. We divide time into seconds, months, and years. We map stars into constellations, translate thought into language, and use math to define structure and form.

We do this, I believe, because energy is relational by nature, shaped by what it meets, where it moves, and when. The same force under different conditions can create an entirely different experience. We carry that responsiveness within us. Our nervous system hums with electrical impulses. Our minds shift through different frequencies, slipping into daydreams, surrendering to deep sleep, then sharpening into hyperfocus, sometimes within a matter of hours. Our hormones rise and recede in response to what we encounter. There is an endlessly unfolding conversation happening within us, between us, and with the world around us.

And so much of what’s real and true about the world and ourselves begins at the boundaries of our perception. A single breath can steady the turbulence within. A lingering glance can bridge an unspoken understanding. A familiar scent, caught in passing, can collapse time and pull us into a forgotten memory. Silence can be deafening. We get chills at a song’s crescendo, feel the ache of a familiar season returning, or sense when something just feels right or suddenly off.

No one system or container can predict exactly what will happen. But perhaps that’s the point. A clock does not create time. A calendar does not create a season. No single container, belief, or mindset can give us the whole truth, only a different way to see it.
